Democrats and discrimination

I have been amazed at how those opposed to Sara Palin have sounded like the exact stereotype from which they view Republicans. Do those opposed to her really intend to say that a mother's place is in the home raising children?

Someone in the Dem party needs to wake up. Comparing Obama to Jesus and Palin to his killer?

Bringing up her religion as being kooky, when Obama’s religious mentors are frightening to average voters?

Suggesting her experience as Mayor and Gov. are nothing, when Obama has an equally thin resume?

Seriously. First of all, her experience is in an actual executive role. Not even McCain can claim that. Secondly, why are Obama supporters debating why their nominee is better than the other guys VP?

I remember when I first learned of Obama. I was curious about his ability to achieve success. I have over ten years of background of working with minority groups in a manufacturing setting. The worst case of racism that I have seen is between “African-Americans” and actual Africans who have immigrated to America.   The fact that Senator Obama portrayed himself as an “acceptable” black was offensive to most leaders in the Civil Rights movement. It took almost a year for him to break their support for Hillary. In the end he won it because he revealed that he had strong ties to the people and the philosophy of the Civil Rights movement. While running for the Illinois Senate, he was able to hide his positions and appear “multi-racial”. To this day, he now uses less sophisticated speech (dropping his g’s) and has revealed his true colors (no pun intended).

It has long been my opinion that the first black and female president should come from the Republican party. This is based on one simple reasoning. Republicans are viewed as sexist and racist by the left. The truth is that Republicans do fear militant feminists and blacks. My own parents are first and second generation immigrants. They lived primarily in Michigan’s upper peninsula. They rarely ever saw a black person. Why should they and their offspring give money (reparations) to Tiger Woods and his kids? Most Americans believe that justice should be blind. Sure there is racism. There are a lot of isms. The American story is about overcoming it.

The same with militant women. Do we want to elect a woman who sees it as her duty to pay back men for their being pigs for thousands of years?  Democrats need to stop using race and gender as a definition for people, and assigning a required agenda to that definition as well. It is safe to say that McCain was well aware that Gov. Palin was a woman and that it would impact the race in unique ways. But he also knew she was a tough reformer, a strong leader, an evangelical Christian, an appealing person and a conservative. Conservatives are not crazy about Palin because she is a woman, but because she is exactly like we imagine Reagan would have been like if he was reincarnated as a woman.   Principals first, gender second (if at all).

It was Obama and the media that brought sexism into the Democrat primary. It was the Hillary campaign and media that made racism an issue as well. The truth must be seen for what it is. Democrats are so obsessed with not appearing to be sexist or racists, that it dictates their actions. I have heard it told a hundred times that the Republicans dragged race into the 1988 race between George H.W. Bush and Dukakis by using the Willie Horton ads.   The truth is that it was Al Gore who mentioned Dukakis’ furlough program during the Democrat primary.

In some strange way, I wished Senator Obama would have chosen a handicapped lesbian Native American, so we could get all our collective guilt out of our system at one time. But Americans don’t want to (or shouldn’t want to) vote for someone out of guilt to prove how “progressive” they are. That is why the first Black and Female presidents should come from the Republican party.  It is important to note that Republicans often fall into the same trap. I do not believe that Sandra Day O’Connor, Clarence Thomas or Condi Rice were the best people for their jobs. I am not all that politically allied to Colin Powell, but he was definitely qualified for the job.   If nothing else comes from this election cycle, it will get a lot of firsts out of the way.
